Frequently asked questions

How do I find players at my level?

Tell SATA (savannahtennis.com) your approximate NTRP level, availability, and whether you want rallies or scored matches. Residents can join its singles and doubles flex leagues (savannahtennis.com), where players arrange their own match times. An intermediate clinic is another way to meet regular hitting partners.

What works best for a visitor seeking a match?

Contact SATA before arriving with exact dates and an NTRP estimate. Check the Savannah PlayYourCourt Meetup (meetup.com) for a scheduled social session. You can also ask a Bacon Park coach, or a club where you have guest access, about a clinic with space at your level. Seasonal leagues require registration and a continuing schedule.

How should I secure courts for a seven-day visit?

Call Bacon Park (savannahga.gov) at 912-351-3850 for its hard courts or Forsyth reservations, and Daffin Park at 912-351-3851 for clay. Ask Chatham County Parks (parks.chathamcountyga.gov) about Lake Mayer at 912-652-6780. Arrange private-club membership or qualifying guest access before relying on a club court.

How do I book private or group lessons?

Use SATA’s program interest forms (savannahtennis.com) for group instruction and its coaching contact (savannahtennis.com) for private lessons. Savannah Tennis Academy (savannahtennisacademy.com) lists private, semi-private, and small-group instruction at 912-353-9399. Club members can ask their tennis staff about lessons and clinics.

Where can NTRP 2.0–4.0 players meet peers?

At 2.0–2.5, start with SATA’s Tennis Apprentice program. Around 3.0–4.0, try an intermediate clinic, flex league, or rated team. SATA’s league guide (savannahtennis.com) lists seasonal formats, and the USTA NTRP guide (usta.com) explains self-rating. Tell organizers about your actual rally and match experience too.

Booking, hours & costs

Savannah’s 2026 revenue ordinance (savannahga.gov) sets city tennis-court use at $10 per hour for city residents and $15 per hour for nonresidents. Ask the desk which courts and bookings that charge covers, especially at Forsyth. The ordinance also lists a $20-per-hour tennis-pro court-use charge; that is a facility charge, not a private-lesson quote.

City operating hours (savannahga.gov) vary by complex and day, with shorter Friday and weekend desk hours. County park pages provide a reservation number but no tennis-specific hourly price; call 912-652-6780 to confirm any fee. Private clubs do not publish a general walk-in court rate.

Community

Find players & local organizers

SATA (savannahtennis.com) is the main local organizer. It reports more than 1,400 members and offers leagues, casual events, junior programs, and outreach. Its contact page (savannahtennis.com) separates coaching, league, and general inquiries.

A useful introduction: “I’m approximately NTRP 3.5, available Tuesday and Thursday evenings, looking for singles matches or 60-minute rallies, and can play at Bacon Park or Lake Mayer.”

For less formal play, check the Savannah PlayYourCourt Meetup (meetup.com) and ask a SATA clinic leader about players in your group. Verify an actual Meetup event before planning around it; dates and attendance change.

Leagues, service & events

SATA’s league overview (savannahtennis.com) lists adult men’s and women’s teams, mixed doubles, combo, tri-level, and flex play throughout the year. Its flex leagues (savannahtennis.com) suit residents with variable schedules. SATA says league players need active USTA membership and lists a separate $20 seasonal league fee; check the current registration page before paying. It also runs junior programs (savannahtennis.com) and Special Pops Tennis and volunteer outreach (savannahtennis.com).

The annual Savannah Challenger (savannahchallenger.com) brings professional tennis to The Landings’ Franklin Creek clay courts. The organizer currently lists April 5–11, 2027, for the next event; check its site for tickets, volunteering, and the final schedule. Savannah-raised player Kylie Collins (texaslonghorns.com) reached the international junior circuit and later played college tennis at Texas.

Why Savannah works for a tennis trip

Savannah offers three distinct playing experiences: renovated courts in historic Forsyth Park, large city and county hard-court facilities, and green-clay play at Daffin Park and private clubs. You can arrange a city court without joining a club, meet players through SATA, and watch rising professionals during Savannah Challenger week.

For a smooth visit, book courts first, contact an organizer with your level and exact dates, then add a clinic or social session if space is available.
