The Ultimate Guide to Tennis in Huntington

Courts, Communities, and Competition

Your quick guide to playing

Public park tennis, indoor clay and hard courts, lessons, leagues, and local hitting partners in Huntington, New York.

Researched September 30, 2026. This guide includes nearby communities within the Town of Huntington and identifies courts outside Huntington village. Confirm availability, fees, and lighting hours before traveling.

Plan your visit

The town court list (huntingtonny.gov) identifies parks and lighting, but gives no general individual booking rule or fee schedule. Ask about walk-on play, visitor access, lesson use, and evening lights. Group event permits are a separate matter from an ordinary game.

The questions players ask first

What is the fastest partner search for a visitor?

Contact Huntington Indoor Tennis before arrival and ask for a single Total Tennis opening or a suitable clinic. Its published Winter 2026 schedule (huntingtonindoortennis.net) offered single plays subject to space. Also search Huntington and nearby Suffolk County players in the USTA Flex app (usta.com). A season long league may be a poor fit for a seven day visit.

Where can I book private or group lessons?

Both indoor clubs offer private instruction and clinics. Park Avenue (parkavetennis.com) lists a private half hour at $90 and a semi private half hour at $50 per person. Huntington Indoor Tennis’s posted lesson page (huntingtonindoortennis.net) lists $85 per half hour; request a current quote for its newer 2026–27 programming. The town lesson interest form (huntingtonny.gov) goes to its tennis coordinator. Call 631-351-3089 for current sessions and prices.

How do NTRP 2.0–4.0 players meet suitable opponents?

At 2.0, start with a beginner clinic and ask the coach for rally partners. At 2.5–3.0, try a level matched group session or doubles ladder. At 3.0–4.0, look into club leagues and USTA Eastern leagues (usta.com). Players without a USTA rating can self rate. Give an honest estimate of your level; a short hit can help confirm a good match.

Why make Huntington a tennis stop?

Three distinct games sit close together: an outdoor park court near the village arts district, indoor clay beside the LIRR station, and indoor hard courts across town.

The wider town adds outdoor courts in Huntington Station, Dix Hills, Commack, Greenlawn, East Northport, and Melville. For a seven day trip, contact a club with your dates and NTRP level before you arrive, reserve an indoor weather backup, and ask for a clinic opening or player introduction. Community organizers can also contact the USTA Eastern Long Island Region (usta.com).

Public parks in the Town of Huntington

The town tennis inventory (huntingtonny.gov) names these 13 parks. Locations follow its park directions (huntingtonny.gov). “Count unlisted” and “surface unlisted” mean the town did not verify those details.

Heckscher Park (huntingtonny.gov)

Prime Avenue at Main Street, Huntington village. Four lighted outdoor courts. Global Tennis Network (globaltennisnetwork.com) lists a hard surface.

Manor Field Park (huntingtonny.gov)

East 5th Street between Park Avenue and Lenox Road, Huntington Station. Two outdoor courts; surface unlisted. The town tennis inventory lists Manor among lighted sites, but its park detail page explicitly labels the basketball courts, rather than the tennis courts, as lighted. Verify tennis lighting before an evening visit.

Otsego Park (huntingtonny.gov)

Commack Road or 55 Otsego Avenue, Dix Hills. Lighted outdoor courts; current count and surface unlisted. An older town trail guide (huntingtonny.gov) counted two, but is not a current inventory.

Terry Farrell Park (huntingtonny.gov)

Wolf Hill Road at Old Country Road, Dix Hills. Lighted outdoor courts; count unlisted. A court directory (tenniswhere.com) identifies a hard surface.

Verleye Road Park

Verleye Avenue between Burr Road and Jericho Turnpike, East Northport. Unlighted outdoor courts; count and surface unlisted. A town notice dated August 10, 2026 (huntingtonny.gov) says the park is temporarily closed for improvements. Check its status before going.

William J. Byrne Memorial Park

Clay Pitts Road between Larkfield and Elwood Roads, East Northport. Unlighted outdoor courts; surface unlisted. A town budget (huntingtonny.gov) refers to resurfacing two tennis courts. Verify the layout after that work.

Whitman Park

New York Avenue between Wolf Hill and Old Country Roads, Melville. Unlighted outdoor courts; current count and surface unlisted. Town budgets describe tennis and pickleball work, so check the current layout.

Little Plains Park

Tufts Lane between Park Avenue and Greenlawn Broadway, Greenlawn. Unlighted outdoor courts; count and surface unlisted.

Cedar Road Park

Cedar Road near Cedar Road School, Commack. Unlighted outdoor courts; count and surface unlisted. The town also gives 180 Cedar Road (huntingtonny.gov) as a park address.

Public court access and pricing: Town pages do not establish a general hourly fee, a seven day reservation window, or a blanket first come rule for individual play. Call 631-351-3089 before relying on any of those assumptions. The town’s Heckscher group use application concerns organized events and does not automatically apply to a casual singles match.

Community and leagues

Organized play

USTA Eastern Long Island (usta.com) serves Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Adult leagues sort play by age and NTRP level; new players may self rate. Adult league coordinator Milly Keighery can be reached at keighery@eastern.usta.com or 914-351-0442.

USTA Flex (usta.com) supports self scheduled Long Island matches and, as of 2026, local hitting partner discovery.

Park Avenue’s posted league page (parkavetennis.com) describes 15 week, ability based leagues with individual or partner entry. It displays women’s singles at 3.0–3.5, men’s doubles at 3.0–4.0, ladders, and mixed doubles nights. Displayed prices range from $495 to $625, with a $200 placement deposit; ask which season those figures cover.

Huntington Indoor Tennis (huntington-indoor-tennis.com) also advertises leagues and clinics. For less structured play, join a clinic and ask its director to connect players who want extra rallies at public courts.

For community organizers

To form a team or public event, contact the USTA Long Island coordinator for formats and the town Parks & Recreation office (huntingtonny.gov) for any necessary group court approval.

Confirm the exact park and whether its courts are shared with another sport before advertising a session.

Lessons and coaching

Huntington Indoor Tennis

Private and semi private lessons, adult clinics, junior development, and level based Total Tennis. Its Winter 2026 clinic page (huntingtonindoortennis.net) listed $495 for a one hour format and $630 for a 90 minute format over 15 weeks; those are season specific examples. The newer 2026–27 page (huntington-indoor-tennis.com) invites new bookings. Ask for an assessment and current price.

Park Avenue Tennis

Private, semi private, and group clinics (parkavetennis.com) for adults and juniors. Its posted private rate is $90 per half hour; a semi private lesson is $50 per person per half hour. Players can sign up alone and request clinic placement.

Town of Huntington

The private lesson interest form (huntingtonny.gov) accepts a desired location and number of lessons. The town also describes adult and youth recreation tennis, but a current 2026–27 class price was not verified. Call 631-351-3089.

Flores Tennis Instruction

Jim Flores and assistant coach Jack Flores (florestennis.com) advertise personal coaching for beginner and intermediate players. Contact: 198 New York Avenue, Huntington; 631-790-7394. Confirm the lesson court when booking.

Shops and stringing

Solow Sports (solowsports.com)

Huntington’s specialist racquet shop offers tennis equipment, demos, stringing, regripping, and customization. Its pickup and mail-in pages (solowsports.com) list 347A Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743 and 347-915-5695. Text before visiting.

The shop advertises mail-in stringing at $30 plus the cost of string; confirm walk-in price and turnaround directly. A USTA National Tennis Center page (ntc.usta.com) prints “37A Main Street,” so use the shop’s own address.

Other local options

Park Avenue Tennis (parkavetennis.com) says it has a stringing room; ask the desk whether customer stringing is currently available.

String It Up at 41 Stewart Avenue is a lacrosse stick stringing business (stringitup.com) and is not a verified tennis racquet stringing option.

Local names on the national stage

Huntington player Jack Kennedy won the 2025 US Open junior boys’ doubles title with Keaton Hance, according to USTA Eastern (usta.com).

Recreational players have also reached national level. USTA Eastern’s 2026 results (usta.com) name Huntington’s Sean Tuthill as the 40 & Over 4.0 men’s singles champion and Kelley Gittler as part of the 55 & Over 3.0 women’s doubles championship team.
